Should I do a Boston Engagement session before my wedding

A question that I often get asked is whether or not you should have an engagement shoot before your Boston wedding day. The answer is that it is really up to you but that if you do it will definitely put you in good stead for the wedding day and having your photos taken then. It get you comfortable with your photographer and it means that you’ll be more used to having yourselves in front of the camera.

Getting your photo taken isn’t something that you do every day, unless you are a model maybe so you won’t be used to what to expect when you are in front of the camera. An engagement session in Boston or some other part of New England for that matter would be a great way of spending a bit of time together as a couple so that you get used to having photos taken and also come away with some great shots of the two of you in a more comfortable environment.

I shoot a lot of weddings here in Boston and capturing those days on a regular basis means I know what to expect from the day and shooting with a couple. If I have already had an engagement shoot with them somewhere then I and they know what we are expecting and how a shoot might go. If I’m working with a couple and the day of their wedding is the first time that they are in front of the camera it can take a little bit monger to get those photos that you are after, simply because it take a while to relax and feel settled in front of the camera.

Know how long it actually takes to get a good selection of photos is something that I talk with my couples about before even shooting. Sometimes though it isn’t until you actually take the time to do a shoot that you realize that it isn’t just stand in front of the camera and snap, there you go great images in the bag. Once you realize that it takes a little longer then having that practice run before hand can really help speed things up on a day that you are going to want to spend time with you friends and family rather than standing in front of me taking your pictures with you posing for them.
